TIFLIS (EFE).— El presidente de Armenia, Armen Sarkisián, anunció ayer su dimisión por carecer de facultades para influir en la política interior y exterior del país.
“Estamos viviendo en una realidad (…) en la que el presidente no puede poner su veto a las leyes que considera inconvenientes para su pueblo y el Estado”, afirmó Sarkisián, nombrado por el Parlamento en marzo de 2018, en un mensaje difundido en la página web de la Presidencia armenia.
La dimisión del mandatario, de 68 años, se produce en medio de tensiones con el gobierno liderado por el primer ministro, Nikol Pashinián, a quien Sarkisián urgió a abandonar el poder después de la derrota del país en la guerra de Nagorno Karabaj con Azerbaiyán.
“Lo he pensado mucho y después de cuatro años de un intenso trabajo he tomado la decisión de dejar el cargo del jefe de Estado”, señaló Sarkisián.
El político indicó que su decisión no es emocional y está relacionada con la falta de herramientas para influir en los destinos del país en tiempos complejos para su pueblo. “Hoy, más que nunca, necesitamos tomar pasos bien pensados”, dijo.
