La épica de vampiros “Sinners (Pecadores)” y la historia de terror gótico “Frankenstein” ganaron tres premios cada una, mientras que la tragedia familiar shakespeariana “Hamnet” fue Mejor Película Británica.
Jessie Buckley, tal como se preveía ampliamente, ganó el premio a Mejor Actriz por interpretar a una madre en duelo y esposa de William Shakespeare, Agnes Hathaway, en “Hamnet”.
En una gran sorpresa, Robert Aramayo se llevó el premio de Mejor Actor por la película independiente británica “I Swear”, imponiéndose a estrellas como Leonardo DiCaprio y Timothée Chalamet.
“One Battle After Another”, la explosiva película de Paul Thomas Anderson sobre un grupo de revolucionarios en conflicto con el Estado, ganó los premios a la Dirección, Guión Adaptado, Fotografía, Montaje y Actor de reparto para Sean Penn.
“Esto es abrumador y maravilloso”, dijo Anderson al aceptar el premio a Mejor Dirección.
Estrellas de Hollywood y celebridades británicas, desde el oso Paddington hasta la princesa de Gales, se reunieron ayer para la entrega de premios, en la que “One Battle” y “Sinners” encabezaron las candidaturas.
La película “Sinners” se llevó los trofeos a Guión Original, Mejor Música en Musical y Actriz de Reparto para Wunmi Mosaku.
Figuras como DiCaprio, Chalamet, Emma Stone, Cillian Murphy, Glenn Close y Ethan Hawke desfilaron por la alfombra roja fuera del Royal Festival Hall de Londres antes de una ceremonia de etiqueta presentada por el escocés Alan Cumming.
El príncipe Guillermo y Catalina, princesa de Gales, también asistieron, tres días después de que el tío de Guillermo, Andrés Mountbatten-Windsor, fuera arrestado por la policía y retenido durante 11 horas por acusaciones de que envió información gubernamental sensible al fallecido financista y delincuente sexual Jeffrey Epstein.
El escándalo ha sacudido a la familia real encabezada por el rey Carlos III, aunque Guillermo y Catalina siguen siendo abanderados populares de la monarquía.
Guillermo tenía previsto presentar un premio en su papel de presidente de la Academia Británica de las Artes Cinematográficas y de la Televisión.

Entre las mayores ovaciones del público estuvo la de Paddington, el oso títere que protagoniza una adaptación musical teatral del querido clásico infantil.
“One Battle” llegó a la ceremonia con 14 postulaciones, incluida la de Mejor Película y candidaturas interpretativas para cinco integrantes de su elenco.
“Sinners” le seguía de cerca con 13, mientras que “Hamnet” y la odisea de ping-pong “Marty Supreme” (“Marty supremo”) tenían 11 nominaciones cada una.
La reinterpretación de Guillermo del Toro de “Frankenstein” y el drama familiar noruego “Sentimental Value (Valor sentimental)” obtuvieron ocho mencione cada una.
