SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, California, EE.UU.
🇺🇸🔥 Norte Fire: wind-driven wildfire burns homes and forces evacuations in San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente The Norte Fire broke out around 11:30 a.m. Pacific time on Oct. 16 near Portico Del Norte in San Juan Capistrano, Orange County, and grew from about 10 acres to 465 acres within hours, pushed by strong Santa Ana winds, the Orange County Fire Authority said. OCFA confirmed at least six homes damaged or destroyed, with aerial images suggesting eight or more. Mandatory evacuation orders cover San Juan Capistrano Zones 4, 5 and 10 and San Clemente Zones 12 and 13, with evacuation warnings in surrounding areas. Deputies are going door to door, shelters opened at community centers in both cities, several schools dismissed early, and air quality is expected to turn unhealthy for sensitive groups in south Orange County. Reported by OCFA, CNN, CBS Los Angeles and NBC Los Angeles. NOT YET KNOWN: Containment, the cause of the fire, the final number of homes lost, and whether anyone was injured. Acreage and home counts are preliminary and changing. FOR RESIDENTS: Follow orders from OCFA and the Orange County Sheriff, and check zone maps on official channels. Shelters are at the San Juan Capistrano Community Center, 25925 Camino del Avion, and the San Clemente Community Center, 100 Calle Seville. Santa Ana winds can turn a small brush fire into a neighborhood-threatening one within hours, which is why evacuation zones expand faster than containment grows. What to watch: wind forecasts overnight, official containment numbers, a damage inspection count, and the investigation into the cause.
